ARRIVAL + ENTRY REGULATIONS
This training camp takes place in close proximity to the major city of Cape Town. Airport transfers from Cape Town are included in the price. We can also happily make you a non-binding offer for your flight. Talk to us! Travel documents must be machine-readable (with the exception of replacement documents issued in the event of loss/theft), must be valid for at least 30 days from after your trip and must contain at least two blank pages for visa stamps. If you plan to travel from South Africa to other countries and then return to South Africa again, you should ensure that you have additional blank pages in your passport for all entry and exit stamps. German citizens do not require a South African visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days. Upon presentation of your return ticket on entry, you will receive a visitor’s permit for the duration of your stay. Important: Travel guests are individually responsible for complying with the entry requirements. Please check your passport and familiarize yourself with the current regulations at least 8 weeks before the start of your cycle tour. Any cancellations due to missing visas or incorrect identification documents (e.g. a too-early expiry date or insufficient blank pages) are made according to our General Terms and Conditions or those of our respective organiser partners.
ROUTE GUIDANCE AND REQUIREMENTS
For most of the daily stages, there are two routes for two different fitness levels. A good basic level of fitness is required for this trip. For fitness level 1, we cycle approx. 64–77 km per day, and for fitness level 2, we cycle 86–113 km per day. Exact daily distances and elevations can be found on the respective day of the tour itinerary. Longer distances can also be covered on request.
ESCORT VEHICLE + GUIDE
All routes for both fitness levels are accompanied by a German-speaking guide.
ACCOMMODATION
Overnight accommodation is in selected 4-star hotels
HEALTH
Standard vaccinations are required for the trip and should be checked according to the current Robert Koch Institute vaccination calendar for children and adults. These recommendations are not a substitute for a personal consultation and a vaccination check-up with your family doctor! More detailed information on medical and health requirements can be found, for example, on the website of the Centre for Travel Medicine (Centrum für Reisemedizin, www.crm.de).
CLIMATE
It is the South African high summer and the climate is warm to hot and dry. The chances of rain are almost zero. Mornings are still pleasantly cool, but the day warms up quickly. Between 11.00 and 14.00 it can be very hot. In the afternoons, the predominantly south-easterly wind picks up, bringing more pleasant temperatures. Humidity is very low. Daytime temperatures range between 25 and 35 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures are 20 degrees Celsius. Sunrise is at 06.00 and sunset is at 20.00. There is a one-hour time difference in January.
BIKES
The training camp can be booked with full carbon road bikes, gravel or mountain bikes with different equipment and in different sizes. The number of rental bikes is limited. You can also, of course, bring your own bike with you (free of charge with SAA for a maximum weight of 20 kg, as at Dec 2017). Wearing a helmet is compulsory. Helmets can be rented on site subject to availability. Please let us know at the time of booking. You are welcome to bring your own saddle and clipless pedals [NLW1] for your comfort during your cycling holiday. Our guide will be happy to assemble them for you. Our rental bikes have normal pedals.
